Dr. Toyin Samuel Olowogbon is an accomplished Agricultural Economist and a leading figure in development-focused research, innovation, and grant writing in Africa. He is affiliated with the Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Empowerment (Nigeria) and serves as a Research Fellow at both the Institute of Food Security and Commercial Agriculture, Federal University Oye-Ekiti, and the Centre for Economic Policy and Development Research (CEPDeR), Covenant University, Ota, Nigeria. He holds a Master’s and Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ilorin, a professional postgraduate diploma in education from the University of Ibadan, and is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher in Digital Agriculture at the Migal Galilee Research Institute and Tel-Hai College, Israel.
With over 15 years of experience, Dr. Olowogbon has an outstanding record in designing and evaluating development interventions, applying digital tools, experimental economics, and randomized controlled trials. His work spans climate adaptation, agricultural health, and resilience building among smallholder farmers. Passionate about agri-preneurship, evidence-based policymaking, and advocacy, he has supported individuals and agribusinesses to unlock and grow their potential, while pioneering frugal innovations that help farmers adapt to climate change.
He is the developer of the award-winning SOFADRICLIMATE App (www.sofadriclimate.com), an innovative digital solution integrating climate information with weather-index microinsurance. The app has received international acclaim, won the USAID/Mercy Corps SCALE Creative Adaptation Award (People’s Choice) and placed as a Semi-Finalist in the 2024 MIT Solve Global Challenges.
Dr. Olowogbon consults for organizations including Precision Development (USA), the African Agribusiness Alliance, the National Centre for Hydropower Research and Development, Blessmath Agri-Enterprise, McGeorge Consulting Ltd., AgroNigeria, and Africe Farms Ltd. He has led projects funded by the Roddenberry Foundation, ISSER-University of Ghana, the Centre for Effective Global Action (UC Berkeley), and the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) at MIT.
His contributions to science and innovation have earned him the Green Talents Award (2021, German Ministry of Education and Research), the Anant Fellowship for Climate Action (2022), and the Allianz Climate Risk Research Award (2023). In 2024, he was appointed a Mentor under the Saleemul Huq Memorial Research Scholarship by the Alliance for Locally Led Approaches (ALL ACT) and served as an Evaluator for the World Food Forum/FAO Policy Challenge. He is also a Mentor with the Agriculture, Nutrition, and Health (ANH) Academy of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and serves on the Technical Advisory Committee for PRO-WASH and SCALE (USAID).
Dr. Olowogbon has been invited to prestigious platforms, including the African Nobel Symposium in Economic Sciences at STIAS, South Africa, and is a featured African Scholar at J-PAL, MIT. He is also a recipient of the Young African Innovators Award by RUFORUM.
An author of multiple books, including The GrantMaster for Researchers and Professionals and The Entrepreneurial Researcher, he combines technical expertise, teaching experience, and a passion for mentorship—making him a sought-after resource in grant writing and research development.
He is happily married to Omolola Olowogbon, and their marriage is blessed.
